Angelique Hillendahl, LPC-I, M.A.

So no one told you life was going to be this way.  Life is definitely not a sitcom. Have you ever struggled to just get through each day?  Does life sometimes seem like its unfair, or just too hard to handle?  Would you say that sometimes it feels like your world is dark and gloomy?  I’ve been where you are and that inspired me to become a counselor and life coach.  Every day is an opportunity to make changes.  What I love about being a counselor is that I get to help people to discover ways to make changes so that they can become more of who they want to be.

My 15 years of work experience prior to becoming a counselor is diverse and includes working with both individuals and families in crisis. I worked for several years in the child welfare system and I also have a few years’ experience working in the field of drug addiction.  My experience also includes, working with a local pastor providing premarital counseling as well as couples counseling. In addition to my counseling practice, I work with students at a local community college by helping them develop skills needed to be successful in college and life.

This unique combination of experiences combined with formal training in therapy techniques including sex therapy has provided me a wealth of experience to draw from to meet the diverse needs of my clients.  I’ve learned that no two situations are exactly the same.  Therefore, my counseling style reflects this personal awareness. Therefore, I draw from numerous counseling techniques such as emotion focused therapy, person centered therapy, solution focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.

I work primarily with older teens who are getting ready to go to college and with adults in various stages of life. I provide pre-marital coaching, life coaching and counseling services for individuals and couples.  When working with individuals I enjoy working on managing stress, navigating life transitions, building resiliency, surviving infertility, overcoming sexual dysfunction post childbirth, building self awareness when it comes to choosing partners and managing depression and anxiety. For my couples, I work with a broad range of issues including premarital counseling, recovery from infidelity, emotional disconnection, sexual desire discrepancies and conflict resolution.  I enjoy helping couples through all stages of their relationships ups and downs, and can even provide support for those couples who have chosen to end a relationship.
